Rotary Club to host Annual Peony tour in Skidmore

Rotary Club of Maryville is inviting the public to tour one of North America’s largest peony farms during the third annual Bloomin Peony Tour on May 16 in Skidmore.

Hollingsworth Peonies is internationally recognized for hybridizing peonies designed to withstand the Midwest’s changing climate. The farm spans 113 acres and attracts visitors from across the country each year.

Kay Wilson, chair of the event’s media marketing committee, said past visitors have traveled from states including Vermont, Washington, Arkansas, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin to attend the tour.

The event allows guests to walk through the blooming fields, enjoy picnic-style dining and visit with vendors offering food and beverages. Visitors are also encouraged to take photos and relax throughout the grounds.

Wilson said the VIP experience includes presentations from experts and growers, which has helped draw additional visitors from outside the region.

VIP admission includes early access from 7 to 11 a.m., a guided tour led by a horticultural expert and a light breakfast, lunch and coffee service.

General admission will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and tickets will be available at the door.

More information is available at Hollingsworth Peonies or by calling 660-851-1560.
