Voters in the Maryville School District approved Proposition Spoofhound, the Proposition 3 sales tax rollback, in Tuesday’s election with more than 60% of the vote.
Superintendent Phillip Pohren said the measure will help the district recruit and retain teachers and staff.
“Now we get to work to make sure that we put into place what we said we would do,” Pohren said. “That means we’re going to take a hard look at salaries for all of our staff and see what we can do to get those to be competitive to those schools around us, the MEC conference schools in particular. It’s an outstanding opportunity for us to move forward, and we thank the community for their support.”
In the Maryville Board of Education race, five candidates competed for three open seats. Amy Ziegler received the most votes with 932, followed by Dale Baker with 847 and Deann Davison with 829. All three were elected.
In the Maryville City Council race, three candidates sought two three-year terms. Erin Allen, who received more than 41% of the vote, and Bryan Williams, who received more than 29%, were elected.
Benjamin Lipeic ran unopposed for a two-year term on the Maryville City Council.
