Great Northwest Day at Capitol set for Feb. 3–4 in Jefferson City

The annual Great Northwest Day at the Capitol is scheduled for Feb. 3–4 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

The event gives northwest Missouri residents an opportunity to meet with state officials to discuss regional issues ahead of the legislative session and before state budgets are finalized.

Kimberly Mildward, priorities chair for Great Northwest Day, said Nodaway County will be represented, with a group of local citizens traveling to the state capital to participate.

“Each year we take a group of local citizens down to the Capitol to talk about issues that are important to us with our legislators and educate them on what we feel are priorities in northwest Missouri related to issues that impact our daily lives,” Mildward said.

The Great Northwest Priorities Committee has identified six top priorities for the upcoming legislative session: expanding access to rural health care, increasing child care opportunities, investing in higher education, supporting K–12 education, expanding workforce housing and ensuring sustainable tax reform.

Registration costs $80 before Jan. 27. Organizers expect more than 250 participants to attend.
