A local hero is being honored at the Nodaway County Museum this weekend.
The Nodaway County Historical Society will hold a special induction ceremony Saturday, November 8, at 11 a.m. for Lieutenant Albert Leroy David. David, a Nodaway County native, is being inducted into the museum’s “Stairway of the Stars,” which recognizes individuals connected to the county who have achieved state, national, or international distinction.
Lt. David was born and raised in Nodaway County before joining the U.S. Navy. During World War II, he earned two Navy Crosses and the Medal of Honor — the only Medal of Honor awarded to a Navy servicemember in the Atlantic Theater during the war.
Missouri author Ross Malone will present a program on Lt. David’s life and service. Malone, who has written 19 books about Missouri history, authored Extreme Valor, which chronicles every Medal of Honor recipient from the state. Copies of his books will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.
The event is free and open to the public. The Nodaway County Museum is located at the corner of First and Walnut streets in Maryville.
