Maryville Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Stubblefield announces 2026 retirement

Maryville Parks and Rec

Maryville Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Stubblefield has announced his retirement after seven years of service to the community. His last day with the department will be in March 2026.

During his tenure, Stubblefield oversaw numerous park improvements and community initiatives. He said one of his proudest achievements was helping secure a sales tax extension that made major capital projects possible.

“Well, getting the sales tax extension to be able to do some of these major capital improvements that have been needed over the years — probably the biggest thing — getting the sales tax dollars to be able to do some of these projects that have been needed to be done,” Stubblefield said.

This year alone, the department has replaced bridges in Judah Park, updated signage across facilities, completed paving projects, and neared completion of the city’s first dog park, set to open this fall. Pickleball courts are planned for next year. Previous projects under Stubblefield’s leadership have included new playgrounds and expanded community wellness programs.

Stubblefield credited his staff and the community for their continued support.

“I’ve got a great staff here and had the opportunity to work with multiple park board members, city councilmen and city managers. They’ve all been very supportive — and the community has been extremely supportive of parks and recreation and realized how important the parks are to a community. Very thankful for that,” he said.

Stubblefield said he knew it was time to move on.

“My father always told me, you’ll know when it’s time to step out — and it’s time to step out,” he said.

After retirement, Stubblefield plans to remain active in the community, continue teaching a course at the university, and spend more time with his family.
