As Halloween approaches, Americans are gearing up for a record-breaking holiday of spooky fun and big spending.

About 73% of people in the United States plan to celebrate Halloween this year, according to national retail estimates. Total spending on the holiday is expected to surpass $13 billion. Candy remains one of the biggest categories, with sales projected to reach nearly $4 billion. Decorations are close behind at an estimated $4.2 billion, while costumes are expected to bring in around $4.3 billion. Even Halloween greeting cards are holding strong, adding about $700 million in sales nationwide.

The holiday remains a favorite for families, with trick-or-treating, costume contests, and pumpkin carving at the top of the list for festive activities. Across Missouri, there are 58 pumpkin patches offering hayrides, corn mazes, and other autumn traditions for families to enjoy.

Missouri also has its share of Halloween history in the candy world. In St. Joseph, Chase Candy Company continues to operate as one of the state’s largest confection producers. The company is known for its signature Cherry Mash candy — a sweet combination of chocolate and cherry that has been produced for 100 years.

Whether it’s picking the perfect pumpkin, decorating the porch, or unwrapping a Cherry Mash, Missourians are joining millions nationwide in celebrating a holiday that blends nostalgia, creativity, and community spirit.

Have a spook-tastic and safe Halloween!
