The Future Farmers of America chapter at Northwest Technical School will travel to Indianapolis next week for the annual FFA National Convention, which draws chapters from across the United States for awards, exhibitions, and learning opportunities in youth agriculture.
Maryville Superintendent Philip Pohren said the local chapter will bring livestock to the convention. “They’ll load up trailers and take those out to Indianapolis for shows, and they’ll do a lot of learning,” he said.
FFA chapters nationwide provide students with leadership and development opportunities through agricultural education, and many participants go on to careers in agribusiness. Pohren said the convention exposes students to potential career paths in agriculture. “They’ll be exposed to the different types of ag that could be future career opportunities for these students,” he said.
The FFA National Convention, one of the largest student conventions in the world, is celebrating its 98th year this year.
