It's time to register for The Maryville Public Library's next adult program. A talk next Thursday is digging into native plants.
Tim Janousek from The Plant House will be giving a presentation on landscaping with native plants. He says he started gardening at a young age and never stopped.
" My dad did it. I enjoyed doing it with him as I was a young kid. And then once I got out on my own, I always kind of had plants in the house, tried to do garden at the various apartments I lived at for undergrad and both grad school.", says Janousek.
Janousek's talk will focus on native plants. Such plants are important because a lot of pollinators, as well as other animals, rely on them for food.
Janousek says, " A lot of the pollinators and local critters rely on these type of plants to be a part of the ecosystem and have healthy ecosystem."
The talk will prepare attendees to incorporate some of these species into their own gardens, bringing those important ecosystem benefits to local gardeners.
" What I hope to do is bring about some more awareness about landscaping possibilities with natives. 'cause right now, and even at my own greenhouse on the lot there, a lot of the plants come from different areas that grow here.", says Janousek.
The event is free, but registration is required. Adults can register by calling the library at (660) 582-5281. Children ages 13 and up are also welcome to attend as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Space is limited!
