Chillicothe is strengthening its tourism and event economy

The City of Chillicothe is moving forward on a number of a projects to strengthen its tourism and event economy. The City Tourism Board met last week to discuss ad campaigns and upcoming events.

Amy Supple says that Chillicothe is already preparing for the World Cup, which comes to Kansas City in 2026 and is expected to draw thousands of soccer fans to the Midwest. The board is working with others across the region, hoping to draw some of those visitors to their city.

"We have had this committee established for over a year. We have been invited to meetings at the state level and Kansas City level.", says Supple.

The meeting also featured an update on seasonal ad campaigns to which promote the city runs regularly.

"It may be digital or it may be in print. We do a seasonal campaign to promote Chillicothe to visitors, all year long.", Supple says.

And, if you'd like an excuse to get out to Chillicothe yourself, there's no better time than this weekend: the city is holding its 40th annual Chautauqua in the Park. During the festival, art and entertainment offerings take over the City's Simpson Park this Saturday and Sunday.
