Missouri exempts personal hygiene products from sales tax

Starting this week, diapers, feminine hygiene products, and some other personal care items will no longer be subject to sales tax in the state of Missouri.

The change comes after the state legislature passed a bill earlier this year to exempt both child and adult diapers, incontinence products, and feminine care products such as tampons from the all state and local sales taxes.

The Missouri Department of Revenue announced this change will go into effect starting on Thursday the 28th. While sales tax varies city to city, in Maryville and St. Joseph the rates are around 10 percent, meaning local residents will see savings on the qualifying items.

According to a statement from the Department of Revenue, the change is being made to provide financial relief for Missouri families.
