Updates May be Coming to Mozingo

The Maryville City Council discussed options for improving safety on the 245 Road between Mozingo Lake Park and Liberty Road at their meeting earlier this week. The road sees significant traffic from golf carts, vehicles entering the park, and even pedestrians who are crossing from third-party campsites which are located east of the Mozingo Recreation area.

Addressing concerns from councilmembers, Park Director Jordan Greenhaw agreed: it's not a great situation.

" Yeah, it's dangerous. Right now, I know that we've talked about potentially putting in a trail, but then you also don't want golf parts on trails where there's walkers and bikers either. So we haven't really came to the solution with that. I know public safety, obviously, that's a concern that both of us have.", says Greenhaw.

City Manager Ryan Heiland said the best option is to seek outside funding to expand the roadway and create a designated pedestrian walkway.

" We reached out to a lot of different contractors at the pre-bid conference. There was five or six contractors there. And so I think it was just one of those projects that maybe was a little more complex that they wanted to take on and, that they were working on. So, it's hard to say.", says Heiland.

The council approved a series of ordinance updates to streamline boating rules, quiet hours, and other regulations at the park. Also at Mozingo, this Saturday the city is hosting a back-to-school bash, says Heiland.

"The event will feature live music by Crazy Professor Hair, food from Pizza Ranch and Baker and Son's food truck, mocktails and a full bar.", says Heiland.

That event is at 5 PM on the 16th.
