November art exhibit to feature Northwest faculty work

November art exhibit to feature Northwest faculty work

Northwest Missouri State University’s School of Fine and Performing Arts will showcase artwork by its faculty in the next exhibition of the 2026–27 academic year.

The annual faculty exhibition will open Monday, Nov. 2, at the Olive DeLuce Art Gallery, located in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. The opening event will begin with an artist lecture at 6 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater, where participating faculty members will discuss their work. A reception will follow the presentation.

The exhibition will remain on display through Monday, Nov. 16.

Dr. Karen Britt, an associate professor of art at Northwest, said the university’s studio art faculty maintain active creative practices while balancing research, studio work, exhibitions, teaching and student mentorship.

Britt explained that faculty members encourage students to develop studio practices grounded in research. She also noted that the annual exhibition allows students to learn more about contemporary art and the professional paths available to artists. In addition, the event gives community members an opportunity to connect with faculty through their artwork and gain a deeper understanding of their creative approaches.

Seven faculty artists will be featured in this year’s exhibition, representing a variety of artistic disciplines:

  • Scott Arthur, drawing, painting
  • Britain Bray, digital illustration
  • Dr. Marie Huard, fiber arts
  • Thomas LaPann, mixed media and sculpture
  • Maria Pimenova, laser-cut paper constructions
  • Sarah Sipling, mixed media and printmaking
  • Veronica Watkins, ceramics

Admission to the exhibition is free, and the gallery is open to the public. The Olive DeLuce Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.

Fall gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Mondays, 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, 9 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Fridays.
