Northwest Missouri State has announced the retirement of the lead person in the university's facility services department.
Assistant vice president Dan Haslag completed nearly seven years in that position. That was part of a 38 year career in leading various aspects of facility services in higher education institutions.
When Haslag's retirement takes effect September 30, the interim assistant vice president will be current director of capital programs Scott Kuhlemeyer. And named as interim director of capital programs is Derek DeMott, who is an engineer in that office.
A list of Haslag's accomplishments from Northwest vice president of finance and administration Stacy Carrick includes the university's more than 100 million dollar infrastructure modernization project and his role during the pandemic by navigating unprecedented challenges to keep campus facilities safe, operational, and responsive to the needs of the campus community.

I am writing to share an important leadership transition within Facility Services. After nearly seven years of dedicated service to Northwest, Dan Haslag, our assistant vice president of facility services, has announced his retirement, effective Sept. 30. Following his retirement, Scott Kuhlemeyer will serve as interim assistant vice president of facility services.
We are grateful for Dan’s many contributions and for the lasting impact he has made on Facility Services and our broader organization. His tenure has included a number of significant accomplishments that have strengthened our operations, positioned us for the future and demonstrated his commitment to our students, faculty and staff.

Leading Facility Services through the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating unprecedented challenges while keeping our facilities safe, operational and responsive to the needs of our campus community.
Strengthening the Facility Services team, building organizational capacity and developing a strong foundation for continued success.
Improving operational effectiveness and accountability, while fostering a culture of collaboration and service across the organization.
Advancing a transformational $100 million infrastructure modernization project, a significant investment that will enhance the reliability, efficiency and long-term sustainability of our facilities and campus infrastructure.
Positioning Facility Services for the future, through strategic investments, infrastructure planning and a continued focus on delivering high-quality environments for our students, employees and visitors.
While we will certainly miss Dan’s leadership and partnership, we are fortunate to have Scott and Derek DeMott step into key interim leadership roles. With nearly 10 years of experience at Northwest and a professional background as an architect, Scott brings valuable expertise across facility maintenance and operations, planning and infrastructure, along with a deep understanding of our campus and strategic priorities.
Derek will serve as interim capital programs director, providing focused leadership and oversight for the University’s capital projects and programs. Together, their experience and leadership will provide continuity during this transition and position Facility Services for continued success.
