The power provider for Northwest Missouri State University is reducing the amount of power that is available to the campus. A university e-mail says Evergy's controlled energy curtailment is taking place Monday (July 27) between 2 and 6 p.m. The University's e-mail asks employees and students to take measures that includes raising thermostat settings by four to six degrees and turning off lights and appliances that are not be needed. As of Monday morning, Evergy has not issued statements on its website or social media about the curtailment that the university e-mail says is due to power demand on the regional electric grid.
Maryville Public Safety has announced that cooling centers are available through the end of business hours on Wednesday (July 29). Locations includes the Maryville Community Center, the Maryville Public Library, the Nodaway County Health Department, and the Nodaway County Senior Center. And the Maryville Elks Lodge posted on its Facebook page that their building is also available as a cooling center Monday (July 27) until 6 p.m.
