A shutout in the MIAA opener for Northwest Missouri State soccer earned a Bearcat sophomore conference defender of the week honors.
Emma Cook helped keep the Northeastern State Riverhawks out of the net while also scoring her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 1-0 win.
Cook's efforts propelled the Bearcats to their first win in the conference opening game since 2012.
Northwest, 4-2 overall and 1-0 MIAA, returns home for a pair of matches this beginning Friday against Central Oklahoma.
