Traffic moves through the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and 22nd Street in St. Joseph, where a signal replacement project is set to begin Monday.

Drivers in St. Joseph can expect closures and detours beginning Monday as a signal replacement project gets underway at Mitchell Avenue and 22nd Street.

The closure, which starts at 8 a.m. on Oct. 27, will block both sides of 22nd Street while crews install new traffic signals and upgrade infrastructure in the area. Detour routes will be in place, and speed limits will be reduced during the work.

According to city officials, the project will include the installation of new signal bases, poles, mast arms, and signal heads on all four corners of the intersection. Crews will also build new ADA-compliant curbs and remove a nearby cottonwood tree.

The project, estimated to cost $350,000, is the final phase of a citywide effort to modernize multiple intersections. Work is expected to be completed by mid-December.
