Bethany opens new Central Park in downtown area

The City of Bethany celebrated the opening of its new Central Park last weekend, transforming a once-vacant downtown lot into a community gathering space.

City Administrator Jake Taylor said the park, located at the corner of Central and 16th streets, includes picnic tables, memorial benches dedicated to local residents, and a pergola.

"We tore down a building several years ago on the square," Taylor said. "Instead of selling it or rebuilding, we decided to put a little park there."

Taylor said the project has been in the works for about two years, as the city coordinated landscaping, ordered equipment and waited for the right conditions to complete the space.

The city marked the park’s opening with a ceremony on Saturday.
