Michael S. Thompson, who served the city of Maryville as both mayor and councilman, has passed. He was 75 years old.
Thompson passed on Oct. 9 at Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville.
A lifelong resident of Maryville, Thompson served in the U.S. Navy, completing two tours in Vietnam. After his military service, he worked as a shrimp boat captain before returning to his hometown, where he pursued higher education and began a career in public service.
Thompson served 12 consecutive years on the Maryville City Council, including four years as mayor. In recognition of his service, the city proclaimed April 13, 2009 — the date he left the council — as “Michael Thompson Day.”
He is survived by his wife, Vickie; his brother; and several children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
