Sierra Club Report: Evergy on Track for 100% Renewables by 2035, Ameren Lagging Behind

Konstantopoulos,Helen

A new report from the Sierra Club says Evergy Power is on track to source 100% renewable energy by 2035.

The environmental group’s “Dirty Truth Report” found that while Evergy is making progress, it still plans to build new natural gas infrastructure and will not fully phase out coal power by 2030 — a move the Sierra Club says will have environmental consequences.

Ameren Energy, the other major utility serving Missouri, is further behind. The report says Ameren is only 50% on track to reach 100% renewable energy by 2035 and continues to rely heavily on coal power.

Nationwide, the Sierra Club gave the U.S. a failing grade for its overall progress toward transitioning to renewable energy.
