Tim Tanner is THE new 4-H director for The University of Missouri Extension. Dr. Tanner has over 23 years of experience in youth development and leadership. That includes 17 years in county and state extensions across the Midwest. Previously Tanner directed 4-H programs for the state of South Dakota.
The Missouri 4-H program is an important part of Missouri's education system for young students all around the state. Lisa Washburn, a Vice Chancellor for the Extension says 4-H continues to be an asset for the state's youth.
"And I think that any type of youth development helps youth to increase their confidence and helps them to increase their leadership skills. The thing that makes 4-H a little bit different is that we have such a wide range of project areas that youth can hone in on what their particular interests are and develop their expertise.", says Washburn.
With a new director overseeing the Missouri 4-H program it is clear to see that big changes are to come. Washburn says she has high spirits for what the future might bring.
" There's definitely a bright future for the Missouri 4-H program. We have had an amazing history of helping youth to reach their potential, helping build future leaders so that we have a strong foundation for success for Missouri moving forward. We're really excited to see what this next chapter of Missouri 4-H will bring under Dr. Tanner's leadership.", says Washburn.
Tanner will step into his new role on September 15th.
