St. Joseph is asking YOU to run for various offices in the city. The offices up for election are: city council, judge, and mayor. The city's primary election will be held on February 3rd 2026, with the general election being held on April 7th. City Clerk Paula Heyde says that interested candidates can stop by city hall beginning tomorrow, September 9th to pick up petitions to declare their candidacy.

" The mayor, judge, and four large council members must get 250 signatures on the petitions from people who live in the city limits.", says Heyde.

Anyone running for district councilmember, rather than an at large councilmember, needs to collect seventy-five signatures from qualified voters in their distirct. Candidates who successfully complete petitions will be put on the ballot for next year's elections.

All petitions should be filed with the city clerk no earlier than October 7th and no later than October 28th.

Tips on how to run for office can be found here.
