The City of Maryville is moving forward on two downtown improvement projects later this month.
Plans to beautify an alleyway near the intersection of Fourth and Main street include a small playground area, landscaping, nighttime lights, and public art. The city is also planning to build a pavilion downtown. Speaking at a city planning session on Wednesday, Manager Ryan Heiland said he has been in talks with Mega K-C, the contractor for the alleyway project, this week.
" So that will really kind of hit the go button on that. So I would say potentially end of September, early October, might start seeing some action on that area. And then the Pavilion project, we'll be looking to get that out to bid here within the next couple weeks I think on that. And so, both coming along and excited to see those get done as well.", says Heiland.
The pavilion project will convert an empty lot across from the library into a large indoor-outdoor space. It will host the City's Saturday craft markets along with other events. Funding for the project was secured in 2023 as part of the post-COVID American Rescue Plan Act. Downtown businesses have been eagerly awaiting the projects as the City works to increase visitors to its downtown.
The combined projects are an investment of over 2 million dollars in grant funds and city money for the Maryville downtown.
