The latest data shows positive progress in the state of Missouri when it comes to traffic related deaths. Preliminary numbers for the first half of this year show traffic deaths are down two percent from this time last year.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, while the decrease is encouraging, it is still too early to know if the progress will hold as people in the state transition to fall driving patterns. If numbers do hold, this will be the third year the state has marked a decrease.

Last year, 344 people were killed in a traffic accidents in Missouri between Labor Day and New Year's Eve alone.

Moe-dot is encouraging all residents to help keep traffic deaths down. The agency says: Drive Sober, Drive the speed limit, wear your seatbelt, and put away your phone.
