Budget season has hit the City of Maryville.
At a recent council meeting, staff and elected officials held an overview and planning session to kick of their 2026 budgeting process. The City's fiscal year ends on September 30th, and the city needs to have next years plan in place.
Looking back on 2025, the city focused on downtown revitalization efforts, wastewater upgrades, capital projects, planning for the future, and of course, the improvements on South Main Street.
While the city says it's nearing completion on that major roadway project, work WILL have to carry over into next year's budget. Here's City Manager Ryan Heiland.
"You'll see that there are quite a few items that have not been crossed off, so while this project is on schedule to wrap up major construction by the first of the year, there will still be elements that will bleed into FY26. We do recommend keeping this on as a full priority, there is still quite a few items left to close out.", says Heiland.
Downtown traffic and stoplight replacements, including plans to consider round-a-bouts at some intersections, will carry into 2026. Heiland also says the city wants to designate its downtown as a Community Improvement District, which will come with certain tax opportunities.
"That is going to be a big one to allow the downtown group to be self-sustainable. That is a project that we will be working on in the next coming months and going into FY26. Again, we have gotten a lot accomplished on this but there are still a lot of goals to accomplish.", says Heiland.
With many projects continuing into 2026, councilmembers plan to carry the 2025 goals into next year. City Departments will now draw up specific budgets for council's consideration.
