KXCV/KRNW Sports Summary

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat men's basketball team came back from a 43-31 deficit at halftime to defeat Nebraska-Omaha 83-70 Wednesday night in Omaha.  The Bearcats outscored the Mavericks 31-9 in the first 10 minutes of the second half.  Girod Adams led the Bearcats with a game-high 26 points, including knocking down six three-pointers.  Elijah Allen had 23 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, Jake Reinders, getting a start at center in his hometown responded with 14 points and nine rebounds.  The Bearcats picked up their second road win of the season and improve to 11-10 overall and 6-8 in the MIAA.  Nebraska-Omaha falls to 14-6 and 7-6.

The Northwest women were up by two at halftime but couldn't hold on for an 81-77 loss to Nebraska-Omaha.  Foul trouble hurt Northwest with center Gentry Deitz seeing only 20 minutes of playing time before fouling out.  Omaha native Abby Henry had another career night for the Bearcats scoring 31 points and Gabby Curtis came back after missing a game due to injury with 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.  The Bearcat women fall to 11-10 and 7-7 in the MIAA, the Mavericks improve to 11-9 and 6-7.

The Bearcat men's and women's basketball teams are back on the road Saturday afternoon when they travel to Pittsburg, KS for a doubleheader with Pittsburg State.  Gametime for the women is 1:30 and the men 3:30.  KXCV/KRNW will broadcast both games beginning at 1:10 with the pregame for the women.

Northwest Missouri State Bearcat head football coach Mel Tjeerdsma announced the signing of 17 high school seniors and one junior college transfer to national letters of intent Wednesday on the first day athletes can officially sign to play college football.  The list includes Clint Thompson of Maryville and Bryce Young of Chillicothe.  Thompson played offensive guard and defensive tackle for the Spoofhounds but is slated as a fullback for the Bearcats.  Young is a wide receiver.

The Northwest Missouri State men's indoor track and field team is ranked 22nd nationally and the women's team 23rd nationally in the first rankings of the season released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.The Bearcat men are one of six MIAA programs ranked in the top 25 with Central Missouri third and Emporia State seventh. Seven MIAA women's teams are ranked in the top 25. Individually, Northwest senior Ben McKim has an automatic-qualifying mark in the shot put.
