Northwest Missouri State held off a scrappy Pittsburg State team to earn a 77-67 win Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (5-2, 2-0 MIAA) went on a 10-0 run after the Gorillas tied the game 60-60 with 6:12 remaining in the second half. Pitt cut the deficit back to six points on a pair of free throws in the final two minutes, but Northwest didn't allow them any closer.

Bennett Stirtz scored 23 points and passed out five assists while playing all 40 minutes of the win.

Byron Alexander put up 14 points, and Wes Dreamer chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Northwest will be on the road next week starting with a trip to Fort Hays State Thursday evening. Game time is set for 7:30pm with pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 beginning at 7pm.
