Northwest Missouri State women's basketball used the free throw line and a strong effort from the bench to take down Augustana 67-63 Tuesday afternoon.

The Bearcats (10-2) trailed by eight in the second quarter, but used a 21-4 run to take a third quarter lead.

Northwest finished 24-of-28 at the free throw line, including a perfect 8-8 in the final 30 seconds, to finish off the win. The 'Cats also had 29 points off the bench with 15 coming from Emma Atwood and 10 from Laini Joseph.

Atwood, a junior from Leon, IA, spoke about the resiliance Northwest has shown through its first 12 games of the season.

"We've had little growth spurts every year, but the last couple of years there have still been those close games that we haven't been able to finish the our way," Atwood said. "We've just learned to play off of each other really well. We know down the stretch anyone is capable of making a shot or knocking down big free throws."

The Bearcats are off until December 30 when they host Kansas Wesleyan in an exhibition. That game tips off at 1:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 1pm.
