Northwest Missouri State mounted a furious second half comeback in Warrensburg on Saturday afternoon, but fell short in a 41-38 loss to No. 21 Central Missouri.

The Bearcats (2-3, 1-3 MIAA) trailed 24-3 at halftime, but put up three touchdowns in the third quarter to knot the game 24-24. UCM and Northwest traded scores in the fourth quarter, locking the game up at 31 apiece.

The Mules tacked on another touchdown and field goal late in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats pushed back with a 45-yard pass from Mike Hohensee to John Giagiari, cutting the deficit to just three points. UCM recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock to earn their first win over Northwest since 2012.

Northwest will host Central Oklahoma Saturday, October 7 at 1:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5, KRNW 88.9 and the Bearcat Public Media app begins at 12:30pm.
