Maryville 49, Lafayette 14

Maryville capped the regular season with a dominant win over Lafayette 49-14 and earned a share of the Midland Empire Conference title for the first time since 2019.

The Spoofhounds (6-3, 5-1 MEC) jumped on the Fighting Irish (0-9, 0-6) right out of the gates, recovering a fumble deep in Lafayette territory and scoring three plays later on a six-yard pass from Derek Quinlin to Cooper Gastler.

Quinlin also threw touchdown passes of 12 yards to Caden Stoecklein and 46 yards to Wyatt Garner in the first quarter to anchor Maryville to a 20-0 lead.

The ground game took over in the second quarter.

The Spoofhounds scored four rushing touchdowns before halftime on a 13-yard run by Drew Burns, an 11-yard carry for Quinlin, a 12-yard rush by Macen Shurvington, and finished by Don Allen with a four-yard scamper into the end zone to push the lead to 49-0 at the break.

Kort Watkins also got in on the rushing attack, swapping positions with fullback Cooper Loe for a two-point conversion after Quinlin's touchdown run. Watkins took the carry up the middle and pushed through the teeth of the Lafayette defense to add to the Maryville lead.

Derek Quinlin finished the game 9-9 passing for 125 yards and three touchdowns. Delton Davis tallied four receptions for 64 yards.

Maryville stacked up five sacks, with Watkins, Loe, Shurvington, Riley Brown and Sadler Viau all getting after the quarterback. Shurvington also had a fumble recovery.

The 'Hounds have a bye in the opening round of districts after earning the top seed in Class 3, District 8. Maryville will play the winner of St. Pius-Cameron at home on November 4 at 7pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 will get underway at 6:30pm.
