Northwest 85, Southwest Baptist 66

Northwest Missouri State claimed the MIAA title outright Saturday afternoon with an 85-66 win over Southwest Baptist.

The win assures the Bearcats (27-0, 17-0 MIAA) the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament. Their opening game will come at noon March 7 from Municipal Auditorium.

The 'Cats took a double-digit lead less than seven minutes into the game, and built the lead up to 19 points midway through the first half.

Ryan Hawkins had his best night offensively since early January with 22 points. He also pulled in six rebounds, two steals and passed out two assists.

Joey Witthus finished with 20 points, including four three-point makes.

Trevor Hudgins had 18 points and four assists, and Ryan Welty scored 14 points on 4-7 shooting from three-point range.

Northwest returns home Tuesday for Senior Night against Missouri Western. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 is scheduled for 7:10pm, followed by the opening tip at 7:30pm.
