With one week to go before Thanksgiving arrives, Northwest Missouri State football enters the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the 14th consecutive season, while the men's and women's basketball seasons start to gain traction.

First year head coach Rich Wright has the Bearcats (9-2) back in the postseason with a road game in Ashland, Ohio in the opening round of the playoffs. Saturday's 11am kickoff between Northwest and Ashland University (10-1) marks the first meeting on the gridiron between the schools. Wright and senior wide receiver Shane Williams stopped by the KXCV Bearcat Coaches Show Thursday evening to discuss the matchup, and the mantra the Bearcats are adopting once again -- "Road Dawgs."

Northwest Missouri State men's and women's basketball began the 2017-18 season last weekend with each team playing a pair of neutral site games. The Bearcat women lost to Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State in the SBU Tip-Off Classic, but rebounded Wednesday night with an 84-69 win over Peru State. The men's basketball team opened up the year with an 89-65 win over Upper Iowa in the season opener, and followed that up with a 71-60 victory over Northern State. Senior point guard Justin Pitts received MIAA Player of the Week honors averaging 26 points and four assists per game during the opening weekend. Head coaches Buck Scheel and Ben McCollum joined the Coaches Show to discuss the early season games.
