No. 6 Northwest Missouri State used a balanced scoring attack Thursday evening to outlast Pittsburg State 78-64.

A stellar shooting performance in the first half allowed the Bearcats (22-2, 14-2 MIAA) to open up a 23-point lead prior to halftime, and they preserved that lead despite a season-high 18 turnovers.

The Gorillas used full court pressure late in the first half and throughout the entire second half in an attempt to climb back into the game. The pressure combine with the absence of Justin Pitts to a turf toe injury resulted in the most turnovers for Northwest in a game since December of 2013.

The ‘Cats overcame the giveaways shooting 51.1-percent from the field in the game, highlighted by a 13-22 clip in the opening half. All six Bearcats that scored finished in double-figures for the game.

Senior guard Chris-Ebou Ndow led Northwest with 18 points and 11 rebounds – his fifth double-double of the season.

Ryan Hawkins added 14 points, and Ryan Welty finished with 13 points. Xavier Kurth, Joey Witthus and Brett Dougherty all had 11 points apiece.

With Thursday’s win, Northwest is one victory away from clinching a share of its fifth straight MIAA regular season championship.

The Bearcats host Missouri Southern Saturday at 3:30pm. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW begins at 3:10pm.
