Northwest Missouri State women's basketball fell to Northeastern State 67-58 in the MIAA opener for both schools on Thursday evening.

The Bearcats fall to 1-6 overall, 0-1 MIAA, while the Riverhawks improve to 4-2 overall, 1-0 MIAA.

Northwest trailed by 15 points in the first half, but used a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to five points at halftime. Northeastern jumped ahead by 14 points again late in the third quarter, but a 14-4 run brought the 'Cats back within four. That's as close as they would get as the Riverhawks pulled away.

Tanya Meyer led Northwest with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Jaelyn Haggard scored in double digits for the fifth time this year as she added 12 points.

The Bearcats play Central Oklahoma at home Saturday in the second MIAA game of the season. Tip off is set for 1:30pm. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will begin at 1:10pm.
