Northwest Missouri State football made a late push on Saturday against Fort Hays State, but came up just short in a 13-12 loss to the Tigers on Senior Day.

A 66-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Mezera to Harley Hazlett with 9:25 left in the game boosted the Hays lead to 13-3.

The Bearcats (8-2) faced an uphill battle to get back within reach of the Tigers, but senior quarterback Jonathan Baker entered the game and led Northwest on a 14-play, 75-yard drive capped with a touchdown pass to Quincy Woods with 3:19 left in the game. The scoring drive cut the deficit to 13-10.

Northwest got the ball back, down by three, with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter. Fort Hays' defensive back Connor Shedeed ended the drive with an interception at the Tigers' 14-yard line.

The 'Cats had one more chance as time expired, but Baker's attempt at a 44-yard hail mary was intercepted.

Northwest drops to No. 6 in the Super Region 3 Rankings. A win on November 11 at Missouri Western in the regular season finale should secure the Bearcats in the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
