The week on the Northwest campus started with the NCAA Central Region Tournament, and will wrap up with the Bearcat softball homeopener and the start to the golf season right around the corner. All of those topics were covered Thursday night during the KXCV Bearcat Coaches Show from Carson's Sports Grille in Downtown Maryville.

Northwest Missouri State athletic director Mel Tjeerdsma joined John Coffey on the program detailing a successful region tournament capped on Tuesday, as well as the future for himself and his wife Carol as he approaches retirement this spring.

Bearcat softball was set to play six games in St. Joseph this weekend, but rain scheduled throughout the day Friday resulted in Northwest getting a pair of games at home Saturday and Sunday. The 'Cats are coming off a successful weekend last week on the road winning three of four over Lincoln and Lindenwood. Northwest is also putting up impressive numbers through the first month of the season. They are tops in the MIAA in ERA, earned runs allowed and walks allowed. Head coach Ryan Anderson and senior catcher Jessica Rawie joined the Coaches Show to discuss the early season success.

After a successful fall season for Bearcat golf that saw the team make strides throughout the season, including the second-lowest round in program history at the MIAA Fall Preview, Northwest is set to open the spring season Monday in St. Joseph. The 'Cats will compete in the Missouri Western MIAA Spring Tournament March 19 and 20 at the St. Joseph Country Club. Head coach Andy Peterson is looking for seniors Gia Zupancic and Maddie Propst to guide the five freshmen golfers through their first spring season. Peterson spoke about the success of the fall team and what he's looking for in the coming months from his squad on the Bearcat Coaches Show Thursday night.
