The 2025 campaign is officially underway for Northwest Missouri State football.

The Bearcats took the field Monday morning for the first practice of the fall season.

"I got chills. I was excited," head coach John McMenamin said after wrapping up the first official full-squad workout of August.

"We have a fun group right now that is a little ticked off, and we're going to try to prove some people wrong."

Just seven days after MIAA preseason polls saw Northwest picked to be in the middle of the pack by conference coaches and media, the Bearcats began taking steps toward a 2025 revenge tour. The team ran through individual drills and worked through 11-on-11 reps with opening night approaching in less than four weeks.

McMenamin was excited seeing the offense have moments of finding a rhythm, while the defense battled and showed its game-wrecking ability.

"(The offense) had a huge play – it was a busted coverage, we ran down and scored. The defense, instead of crying or moaning, jumped right in the very next play and got a sack, kicked the offense off the field. That's exactly what you've gotta have: the bounce back, the resolve to say one play isn't more important than the other. It's fun, man. I think both sides made plays."

The Bearcats are back at it Tuesday morning on Mel Tjeerdsma Field working toward the first game August 28 at Minnesota State.
