The Wabash Trace Nature Trail, which connects Council Bluffs, Iowa to Blanchard on the Missouri-Iowa line is hosting one of its signature events this weekend: The Rooster Tail Trail Ride.
The first year the event was run, it rained on the trail. The ride was named for the plume of mud that splattered many bikers up their backsides. Rain or shine the Rooster Tail Ride has been an August tradition ever since, according to Director of the Southwest Iowa Nature Trails Alliance Rebecca Castle.
Castle says, "It's a two day event which goes from Mineola to Shenandoah and back with camping in Shenandoah, and live music in towns along the way."
The ride is about 30 miles each day. The musicians are local, the terrain is gentle, and the spirit is casual, says Castle.
"A lot of the events that we do are around that theme: getting people together, getting people outside, getting them to meet new people and have fun.", says Castle.
It is also a great way to see a beautiful slice of Iowa countryside. The ride is this weekend, on August 8th and 9th. Find out more and purchase tickets at wabashtrace.org.
