Schütz Container Systems, a global leader in industrial container and packaging solutions, announced plans to expand its operations in St. Joseph with a $31 million investment that will create 20 new jobs. The expansion will include the construction of a new on-site facility and the installation of an advanced production line dedicated to manufacturing a new type of industrial packaging.

This will mark the first time Schütz produces this specific packaging product at its St. Joseph site, which is one of 14 locations across North America. The new facility will be equipped with the latest generation of fully electric machinery to boost efficiency, enhance product quality, and maintain high cleanliness standards in production.

“Missouri is proud to welcome this exciting new chapter for Schütz in St. Joseph,” said Governor Mike Kehoe. “Their investment highlights the strength of Missouri’s manufacturing sector, the talents of our workforce, and our state’s ongoing support for businesses looking to grow. This expansion brings high-quality jobs and continued economic progress to northwest Missouri.”

Frederik Wenzel, President and CEO of Schütz Container Systems, emphasized the strategic importance of the move. “St. Joseph has proven to be an excellent location for our continued growth,” Wenzel said. “By expanding our production capacity and adding new jobs, we’re better positioned to meet the growing demand for our packaging solutions. The local workforce and strong community backing make this the right place to invest in our future.”

Schütz manufactures sustainable packaging used globally to store and transport a wide range of materials—from chemicals and hazardous substances to food-grade products. The company’s focus on innovation, safety, and sustainability has positioned it as a market leader in Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs).

“This is a great example of what’s possible when local and state partnerships work together,” said Michelle Hataway, Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. “We’re proud to support investments like this that strengthen local economies and bring high-quality employment opportunities to Missouri communities.”

The company was one of the businesses visited during Missouri’s trade mission to Germany and the Netherlands in 2022. As part of this project, Schütz will receive support from the Missouri Works program, which offers incentives to help businesses grow and retain employees through access to capital via tax credits and payroll withholdings.

Headquartered in Selters, Germany, Schütz GmbH & Co. KGaA operates one of the largest production and service networks for IBCs in North America. The company emphasizes a circular economy model with its SCHÜTZ TICKET SERVICE, which enables global collection and reconditioning of used containers, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable practices.
