Local schools are showing off new facilities as summer construction projects draw to a close. Many districts in Missouri are welcoming students back-to-school next week.

In Maryville, the Eugene Field Elementary School and the Early Childhood Center are opening next week with a ribbon-cutting set for Tuesday the 19th at 10 AM. Extensive work at those facilities was funded by a ballot measure, known as proposition JUMP, says Interim Superintendent of Maryville Schools Phil Pohren.

"So that was an April 2024 bond issue - Proposition JUMP - great support by the community. A community led group went out and secured enough 'yes' votes to get it on the ballot, get it approved by the voters. 17 of a 24 million dollar bond issue occurred down at the Eugene Field Elementary School. ", says Pohren.

Those dollars went into safety and accessibility upgrades, as well as a brightened atmosphere and redesigned class spaces to fit district and teacher needs.

This week, the St. Joseph School District held a ribbon cutting to celebrate a 5 thousand square foot addition to the Hosea Elementary School. That project was funded by a 20 million dollar bond approved by voters in April 2024.
