Today, August 1st, marks the begining of a sales tax holiday for back-to-school supplies in Missouri. Through the end of the weekend, you can shop tax free on clothing, school supplies and certain electronics, including computers and computer software.
You do not need to be heading back to school yourself, or be shopping for a young student. Anyone qualifies for the tax break, which is applied at checkout.
Purchases made online qualify as well. How much can you save? The state of Missouri charges a sales tax of over 4 percent, and many munipalities add a tax of their own. In shopping hubs like Maryville and St Joseph, for example, the total tax rate is almost 10 percent. So holiday savings could add up.
