The Governor's pen has come down hard in Missouri, vetoing hundreds of millions in earmarked funds set aside by lawmakers for special projects across the state.
The state's general revenue is in a strong position, closing out the 2025 fiscal year with over 200 million dollars in surplus. But, in a press release, Governor Michael Kehoe stressed fiscal conservatism and a preparation for tighter budgets in coming years as he slashed funding for over 100 special projects across the state.
Additional impacts have come to the state's already cash-strapped University system. Nearly 14 million dollars in funding was cut from public higher education. This came as a shock to many universities in our region, which have already budgeted for the coming year.
