The Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph celebrated its 62nd anniversary during its annual meeting and the 34th annual Mayor's Awards for the Arts on Thursday.

Over the last six decades, the Allied Arts Council has connected people with the arts, fostering a bright and inclusive cultural scene in St. Joseph.

As part of that mission, the Mayor's awards for the Arts spotlights individuals and organizations who continuously strengthen the local arts community through passion and dedication.

Awards were presented in six categories, recognizing excellence within artistic disciplines, education, leadership, and volunteerism.

Board member Annie Corrigan says it's an honor to be recognized.

"Well, I'm very honored and very surprised 'cause we have so many wonderful artists in town. I go to the Mayor's Award every year because I'm on the Allied Arts, as a board member. It is very much an honor to be recognized.", says Annie.

Lindsay Prawitz, one of the nominees for the Individual Leadership Award, provided insight on ways that you can get involved.

"Definitely my advice is how to get involved in RFT is just get involved in any way possible, whether that be backstage or teching a show or auditioning for a show or volunteering to Usher. Just any way you can get involved.", says Lindsay.
