Become a Missouri Master Gardener this fall! Registration is open now.

The Master Gardener Course is offered by the State Extension Office which connect residents with ongoing educational opportunities.

It runs fifteen weeks, begining on August 10th and wrapping up by December. Participants gain a working knowledge of the fundamentals of gardening, with a particular focus on the state of Missouri, it's plants, ecosystems, and agriculture.

MU Extension horticulture specialist Debi Kelly says “The program’s motto, is ‘helping others learn to grow,’." She notes, gardeners love to share their knowledge.

The course is online, but involves 30 hours of garden related volunteering in the community. Local coordinators will help gardeners find those projects.

Since its inception in 2013, more than 3,000 individuals have gone through MU Extension online Master Gardener training. Register online at extension.missouri.edu.

The Master Gardener program provides in-depth horticultural training to individuals throughout Missouri who then volunteer their time applying what they have learned to help others in their communities to learn about gardening and environmental education.

The Extension Master Gardener program promotes and raises public awareness of the University of Missouri Extension as a source of unbiased, research-based gardening information.

Through activities such as MU Extension hotlines or answer services, workshops, speaker’s bureaus, garden show booths, and demonstration projects, Extension Master Gardeners provide gardening information to thousands of Missourians each year.

To become trained as a Master Gardener, an individual must complete a 30-hour core training course.

Then the Extension Master Gardener trainee is required to give 30 hours of volunteer service back to the community in approved MU Extension activities.
