"Good Trouble" lives on

Congressman John Lewis quote

Across the country, hundreds of "Good Trouble" rallies, marches, and voter registration drives will occur on July 17, the anniversary day of Representative John Lewis's death.

Lewis was elected and served in Congress from 1987 until he died in 2020. Lewis was also a civil rights activist.

The term "good trouble" was coined by Lewis and is the act of coming together to take peaceful action in order to challenge injustice and create change.

This year, the campaign is directing their focus to recent decisions made by the Trump administration.

Numerous "Good Trouble Lives On" events are scheduled throughout the Northwest Missouri Region.

In Maryville, rally-goers will gather on the public sidewalk on the west side of the intersection of Wal-mart Drive and South Main from 11AM to 1PM.

Two events will be held in St. Joseph.

The first is a rally sponsored by St. Joseph Perisisterhood and is set to take place from 4 to 5:30PM at the Belt and Frederick intersection on the side of the East Hills Mall.

The second is an action rally hosted by EM-PAC and the St. Joseph NAACP chapter, which will be from 6 to 7:30 PM at the St. Francis Baptist Church parking lot located at 1610 Angelique St.

As July 17 nears, organizers continue to draw inspiration from the words of John Lewis himself, who said, "Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America."
