Road rage led to arrest of a Kansas City resident

An arrest has been made in a high profile investigation into the shooting death of Dennis Sharkey on Jan. 10, 2025.  Sharkey was found dead in his car near Interstate 29. Investigators initially suspected a road rage incident had escalated into a shooting, resulting in Sharkey's murder. They've now arrested Kansas City resident Ryan Huseynov for the crime. He is being held for second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Sharkey was a sports reporter for the Platte County Citizen, and a graudate of Northwest Missouri State University. He was fifty years old at the time of his death. An autopsy revealed the preliminary cause of death to be a single gunshot wound. It is believed he was returning from covering a sporting event.

Huseynov, age thirty-seven, is being held in the Platte County Jail without bond. Cell phone data and surveillance footage was used to identify Huseynov.
