Notable bills made changes in the public education across Nebraska

The Nebraska Legislature concluded its session last week. Notable bills passed by lawmakers include a flurry which impact public education across the state. The state made changes to how school districts manage aspects of their finances, and created a commission to study school funding practices. The Stand With Women Act requires that student athletes compete on sports team which match their gender at birth, effectively banning trans athletes from competing on teams that match their gender identities.

Also notable is a new rule creating systems for parents to moniter the books their children are chekcing out from school libraries. Another measure requires districts to strictly limit student phone use during the school day. At the session's conclusion, Governor Jim Pillen praised the legislation.

School districts will now have to act quickly to implement the rules passed during the session and signed into law by the Governor.
