New Share the Harvest exhibit depicts the efforts to fight hunger and food scarcity

Share the Harvest

The Missouri Department of Conservation and Columbia Public Schools opens a new exhibit this Friday. The Share the Harvest exhibit is a "Neighbors helping Neighbors" display, illustrating the efforts of Missouri deer hunters to help fight hunger and food scarcity amongst state residents.

Since 1992, deer hunters around the Show-Me State have donated deer meat they harvested to help their neighbors in need. In the inaugural year, hunters donated over 3 thousand pounds of venison. Since then, the average annual donation has come in at 2 hundred and 30 thousand pounds of venison!

While hunters are able to keep the state's deer population in check, they are also providing high value, nutritional food to families in need. The exhibit highlights the history of the program. It will remain open for public viewing, and is located at the Boone County Nature School in Columbia.
