The cost of living in Missouri is low, one of the lowest in the nation. This is according to a new nationwide poll conducted by the Council for Community and Economic Research.

The Council gathers information on the cost of groceries, housing, utilities and transportation in metro areas across the country. The Missouri Economic Research and Information Center analyzed the data and found the Show-Me State ranked 4th in the US for affordability.

Southern and Midwestern states generally come out on top in the survey, with Oklahoma ranking as the most affordable place to live. States in the Northeast, along with California, Alaska, and Hawaii are some of the least affordable.

The survey is based on US metro areas, which are taken to be indicators for the state as a whole.
