Reversing course less than two weeks after it shuttered its Track and Field Program, Missouri Western State University has announced it is reinstating the program. On May 28th, the University shut down its Track program "effective immedietely."

The announcement was given to student athletes at the season's end, as some athletes were returning from Nationals. Many took to social media to express shock and dismay. The last minute announcement made transfer options scarce. High schoolers, meanwhile, had already signed on to run and throw with the MWSU team in the coming year.

In a press conference Monday, after announcing the program was back on, Athletic Director Andy Carter said circumstances changed.

Carter said the program was originally cut because the school lacks a track facility. Athletes practice off campus at a variety of locations. He suggested the new information created the possibility of building a track, but he did not name a timeline. Instead, Carter said next steps would involve business as usual.

Missouri Western has run a track team for since 2017. Carter has had concerns about the lack of a track facility since he joined the University around three years ago, he said. KXCV News will continue to provide updates on this story.
