Upgrades are approved for Maryville's park facilities

Maryville City Council approved a number of upgrades to its park facilities at this week's meeting. Included in the work is the installation of a new dog area at Sunrise Park, in the city's Southeast corner. The facility will feature two fenced areas for running dogs off leash. There will also be concrete and plumbing work to install sidewalks, water fountains, and landscaping. The designs include a concrete pad for washing dogs as well. Speaking at the Tuesday's meeting, Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Stubblefield says it is up in the air.

"We would like to add a potential dog wash station. There is some logistic things we need to get figured out with finances, a credit card machine, and internet.", says Stubblefield.

The dog park has been part of the city's Parks Master Plan since 2021, and is a priority, says Stubblefield.

Stubblefield noted, "That was one of the major improvements that citizens requested in the survey".

The council also approved pavement work at the entrance to the Donaldson Westside Park, Beal Park, and the Maryville Community Center. Between the pavement improvements and the dog park, the council approved around a million dollars in upgrades.

Already this summer, the Department completed its bridge project at Judah Park. Two sturdy footbridges now cross the creek which runs through the westside park. Stubblefield says folks should be check them out, as the department continues it upgrades.

"The Judah Park bridges are done. If you get a chance, go by there, they're fantastic.", says Stubblefield.

The bridges were funded by federal money released curing the COVID pandemic. The Sunset Dog Park is expected to open this fall, and the pavement improvements will happen in the coming months.
